PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) and Just Say No Deal are groups of alleged Hillary Clinton Supporters who can’t seem to understand that she lost. These groups’ sole cause appears to be pushing the candidacy of Hillary Clinton, despite the fact that Hillary Clinton is, well, uh, no longer a candidate.
PUMA and Just Say No Deal tried and spectacularly failed to derail the Democratic National Convention. Why? Because Bill and Hillary Clinton wholeheartedly endorsed Barack Obama, uniting the Democratic Party. Also, these people are lunatics:
The chief lunatic in that clip refers to a lawsuit filed in Philadelphia in which she claims that “there’s an injunction against the DNC, right now, that he is not qualified to be President of the United States.” Like virtually everything I’ve heard come out of the mouths of these impostors and poseurs, that’s just flat wrong.
A lawsuit was filed in Philadelphia by a lawyer named Phil Berg (no relation, thank God). Mr. Berg appears to be a 9/11 truth idiot. (I say “idiot” because anyone who believes that the government was in on 9/11 is either a moron or in need of intensive psychiatric assistance. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt.)
Here is the complaint. You don’t have to be a lawyer to understand that the allegations are nothing other than reiterations of internet rumors, conspiracy theories and the kind of assorted nonsense one might expect to find rattling around the brain of a 9/11 truther. When people talk about “frivolous lawsuits,” they aren’t referring to slip-and-falls at WalMart. Berg’s complaint is what they mean.
The plaintiff is Mr. Berg himself, proving conclusively that a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client. In his complaint, Mr. Berg claims that Barack Obama wasn’t born in the United States and is therefore constitutionally prohibited from becoming president. When you believe that the government committed 9/11, trivialities like evidence (for example, an actual copy of Obama’s birth certificate) just won’t do.
As part of the complaint, Mr. Berg asked that the court enter an injunction prohibiting the Democratic Party from giving its nomination to Obama. I guess he doesn’t have that much to do because the motion for injunctive relief, Mr. Berg filed a rather lengthy memorandum of law setting out his legal position in detail.
In what lawyers call “a complete shocker”, the judge promptly denied the requested relief.
Lawyers and litigants who engage in this kind of abusive, harassing litigation can be made to pay the fees and costs of those they have sued without basis. Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure provides the remedy. Because filing a lawsuit is a constitutional right, though, costs are rarely awarded. Sanctions won’t be imposed here, either, but they should be.
PUMA and Just Say No Deal have been shunned by their candidate, the Democratic Party, and now the U.S. District Court. They should be happy with that other pair of loveable losers, John McCain and Sarah Palin.
